Naturepedic Mattress Review: What Sleeping on the EOS Trilux for 1 Full Year Is Really Like
After more than a year of sleeping on the Naturepedic EOS Trilux mattress, I break down comfort, materials, customization, off-gassing, certifications, and real-world sleep quality — plus who this non-toxic mattress is (and isn’t) right for.
If you’re researching Naturepedic mattresses and wondering whether they’re actually worth the investment, this article is for you. After sleeping on the Naturepedic EOS Trilux for over a year, my wife and I have a pretty clear picture of what works, what surprised us, and why this mattress has become one of the most important upgrades we’ve made in our home.
Before diving in, I want to embed the full YouTube video where I walk through this experience visually and in more detail. If you prefer to watch first and read later, start here:

Now, let's start with the main attraction. Of course, this is our mattress. Now, when we got our mattress earlier this year, this was tough for us because we didn't go to a physical store. We didn't go to a gallery and actually lay on the mattresses and try them out. We were going solely off of the website and trusting all the descriptions on the website. So, when we ordered our mattress, it was a little bit scary. I'm not going to lie. When it showed up at the door, we were a little bit worried that we might not like it. But if you do want to try your mattress first before you buy online, I completely understand. That's why Naturepedic has, I believe at the time of this recording, 23 different galleries across the United States. So, I'm sure there's one in a city near you. Our mattress, we went with the EOS Trilux model. They have a few different models to choose from — the traditional model, the EOS models, and the hybrid models. It was a pretty easy decision for us because my wife and I prefer a mattress without inner spring coils. To each their own — we just personally didn't want a mattress with coils in it. The EOS Trilux model is the one from Naturepedic that does not contain any spring coils. One of the biggest things that sets this mattress apart is that it is fully customizable. It comes with three layers of inserts for each side. So if your spouse sleeps differently than you — if you like it more firm or more plush — you can organize those layers in any order you want. And if your needs change in the future, you can reorder layers at any point. More firm, more support, more plush — it’s all customizable. When the mattress arrived, there were half a dozen boxes. I carried them upstairs and opened each one. Inside were all the individual layers and the organic cotton casing. Putting it together really wasn’t that big of a hassle. It took about 30 to 45 minutes. And the first thing I noticed was that there was absolutely no off-gassing. No smell. None at all. That was the first sign that the materials were truly high quality. Once assembled, I measured the mattress and it was exactly 9 inches tall, which is what they state on their website. Even though I usually like thicker mattresses, the comfort really surprised me the first night. After a couple nights, I did adjust my layers. I wanted it a little more firm, so I moved the firm layer to the top and put the medium and soft layers underneath. That’s the beauty of this system — you just swap layers until it feels right. It only took us about two nights to know we were keeping this mattress. And that says a lot, because we were coming from another non-toxic mattress we had used for five to six years. Honestly, both my wife and I were surprised that we liked the Naturepedic more. What really sets Naturepedic apart is the materials they use — organic cotton, organic wool, and organic latex. The mattress sleeps relatively cool, and there’s absolutely no chemical off-gassing. Naturepedic also goes above and beyond with certifications. They were the first ever EWG-verified mattress on the market. EWG verification is the gold standard when it comes to non-toxic sourcing. They also trace their materials from farm to bed, which means they know exactly where everything is coming from. Another thing I love is that Naturepedic donates 1% or more of every mattress purchase to environmental organizations. That’s pretty remarkable. All of their mattresses are made in the USA. They offer a 100-night sleep trial, free shipping, free returns, and a 25-year limited warranty on adult mattresses. For kids and crib mattresses, it’s a lifetime warranty. Our infant son sleeps on one of their crib mattresses, and that peace of mind is huge. Overall, I can’t recommend Naturepedic enough. I can only speak from our experience, but if their other models are the same quality as the EOS Trilux, you’re getting a great mattress. I tell my wife multiple nights a week how grateful I am for our bed. Not just for comfort — but for knowing we’re not breathing in toxic chemicals while we sleep. That peace of mind extends to our son and even our dogs. If you’re trying to create a healthier, non-toxic home, your bed matters. You spend a third of your life there. Why We Chose a Naturepedic Mattress in the First Place
When we invested in our Naturepedic mattress, we did something that honestly made us a little nervous: we ordered it entirely online without ever laying on it in person.
No showroom. No quick test in a store. Just trusting the website descriptions and the company’s reputation.
If you’re in that same boat, I get it. Buying a mattress sight unseen is uncomfortable—especially when you care deeply about sleep quality, materials, and long-term health.
That said, Naturepedic does have physical galleries across the U.S. (over 20 at the time of recording), so if you prefer trying before buying, that option exists. For us, we decided to take the leap.
Why We Went With the EOS Trilux Model
Naturepedic offers several mattress lines, including traditional innerspring options and modular designs. After comparing models, we landed on the EOS Trilux, and here’s why:
No metal coils – My wife and I personally prefer an all-latex construction without innersprings.
Fully customizable design – Each side of the mattress has three interchangeable layers.
Long-term flexibility – If your sleep preferences change, you can reorder layers in the future.
Each person can configure their side differently, which is huge if one of you prefers firm support and the other likes a softer, more plush feel.
Unboxing & Setup: What Surprised Us Most
When the mattress arrived, it came in multiple boxes (7 to be exact)—each containing a different layer or the organic cotton encasement. I carried everything through the house and assembled it myself.
Total setup time: about 30–45 minutes.
What stood out immediately was what wasn’t there:
No chemical smell
No off-gassing
No “new mattress” odor at all
If you’ve ever unboxed a conventional mattress, you know how rare that is. This alone was a massive green flag.
Once assembled, the mattress measured exactly 9 inches tall, matching Naturepedic’s specs. While I typically like thicker mattresses, the comfort surprised me right away.
Dialing in Comfort: Adjusting the Layers
The first night was comfortable—but not perfect.
After a couple of nights, I realized I wanted a bit more firmness. So I simply rearranged the layers, moving the firm layer on top and placing the medium and soft layers underneath.
That’s the beauty of the EOS system:
No returns required
No waiting on a new mattress
Just unzip, swap layers, and sleep
Within two nights, we were completely sold.
Comparing It to Our Previous Non-Toxic Mattress
This part matters because we weren’t coming from a cheap or low-quality bed. We had been sleeping on another non-toxic mattress for 5–6 years, and we genuinely liked it.
Still, both my wife and I agreed on something surprising:
👉🏽 We prefer the Naturepedic.
It felt more supportive, more customizable, and overall more comfortable—without sacrificing breathability or temperature regulation.
Materials: Where Naturepedic Really Stands Out
Naturepedic uses a short, intentional list of materials:
Organic cotton
Organic wool
Organic latex
That’s it.
No polyurethane foams. No flame retardant chemicals. No mystery layers.
The mattress sleeps noticeably cool, and there’s peace of mind knowing we’re not breathing in VOCs or chemical byproducts for a third of our lives.
Certifications & EWG Verification
One of the biggest reasons we trust Naturepedic is their commitment to transparency and third-party verification.
They were the first mattress brand ever to be EWG-Verified, which is widely considered the gold standard in non-toxic product certification.
EWG verification doesn’t just look at performance—it scrutinizes:
Material sourcing
Chemical exposure
Manufacturing processes
On top of that, Naturepedic can trace materials from farm to bed, thanks to direct relationships with their suppliers.
Environmental Commitment
Another aspect that doesn’t get talked about enough:
Naturepedic donates 1% or more of every mattress purchase to environmental organizations.
That tells me this company isn’t just selling a product—they’re invested in long-term environmental responsibility.
Trial, Warranty, and Manufacturing
Here’s what you’re getting from a practical standpoint:
100-night sleep trial
Free shipping & free returns
25-year limited warranty on adult mattresses
Lifetime warranty on crib and kids’ mattresses
Made in the USA
Our infant son sleeps on a Naturepedic crib mattress as well, and knowing it’s backed by a lifetime warranty is incredibly reassuring.
Real-Life Impact After One Year
This isn’t marketing hype—it’s our lived experience.
Multiple nights per week, I tell my wife how grateful I am for our bed. Not just because it’s comfortable, but because of what it doesn’t expose us to.
We’ve noticed:
Better sleep quality
Improved recovery
Greater peace of mind
And that matters even more when you’re building a non-toxic home for your family.
Final Thoughts: Is the Naturepedic Mattress Worth It?
I can only speak from firsthand experience, but based on over a year of nightly use, I genuinely believe Naturepedic is the top non-toxic mattress brand available today.
From materials and certifications to comfort and customization, it checks every box we care about.
